Alex Heveri is a Tucson-based sculptor, artist and full-time defense attorney who has been creating large steel and glass sculptures for over 30 years. Over the last 5 years she has created more than 100 huge steel and glass sculptures, some towering 12 feet high, with a combined weight of more than 120,000 pounds. The sparkling, realistic sculptures were all conceived, designed, cut, assembled and welded together by the artist herself.

Her three traveling sculpture exhibits, Glass in Flight, Glass in Flight 2 and Glass in Flight 3, have gained international attention and delighted more than a hundred thousand visitors all over America.

Since 2020, she has placed major exhibitions at:

  • Tucson Botanical Gardens

  • Arizona Sonora Desert Museum

  • Reiman Gardens

  • Houston Botanic Garden

  • Harry P. Leu Gardens

  • Como Zoo Conservatory

  • Huntsville Botanical Garden

  • Atlanta Botanical Garden

  • Flamingo Gardens

  • San Antonio Zoo

  • ...and many more

Heveri’s love of the beauty and complexity of nature in general and insects in particular can be summed up in the new words, “biophilia,” and “entomophilia,”  or “love of life” and “love of insects.” Coined by the amazing people at eButterfly, these two terms illustrate a new approach to the human/insect interface. This attitude of love of life and love of insects  is apparent in every sculpture, as is her impressive command of two notoriously dangerous and unforgiving mediums: steel and glass.

Building Art

"The experience of viewing light through colored and faceted glass is like watching fire. Light captivates the viewer like nothing else. Whether in windows or in sculptures, brilliantly colored glass stirs up positive emotions and is simply mesmerizing."   ~ Alex Heveri
